The Bolton News Sausage!

For those that don't know, I grew up in Bolton. This means I have an unhealthy attachment to Peter Kay, Ritzy's nightclub and the Bolton Evening News.

The Bolton Evening News incurred my wrath in the not-too-distant past when they saw fit to reposition themselves as the Bolton News, owing to the fact that they came out significantly before the evening. Fair enough, but it doesn't bother the Evening Standard, which you can get at about 11 in the morning.

I forgave them, however, when they employed Steven Thompson, a friend of mine and all-round-good-guy, as a reporter. It is paying them significant dividends.

Behold the Bolton News Banger, a sausage manufactured especially for the newspaper by local butcher Malcolm Carr in Carr's Scotch Beef Shop in Blackburn Road. The tasty meat product is partly to celebrate the launch of British Sausage Week, and is available for £3.40 a pound. My knowledge of sausage prices is limited, but judging by Steve's reaction in this video, it comes very highly recommended.

It's also worth watching the video to see how many times Steve uses the classic enrolling technique of repeating someone's name, in this case Malcolm.

"It's a very peppery sausage which is just what I like."

UPDATE! Steven Thompson and the Bolton News Banger are now available on You Tube:
